John Green’s popular novel The Fault In Our Stars will officially be getting the Bollywood treatment with Deepika Padukone in the lead role.
The original story follows two young cancer patients who fall in love after meeting at a support group. The Hollywood adaptation of the novel starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Egort was a huge hit among the young adult audience in the U.S. and made more than $300 million USD worldwide.
The Hindi remake, which will be directed by Homi Adajania (of Being Cyrus and Cocktail fame), will reportedly revolve around the same heavy topic of terminally-ill cancer patients, but with a bit more humor involved.
The male lead has yet to be finalized, though earlier reports noted Varun Dhawan as a possible choice. Deepika’s latest film Piku was well-received and performed strongly at the box office. We will next see Deepika in Imtiaz Ali’s Tamasha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani.
