Directors Take on the Best Films of 2008

Some of Bollywood’s biggest directors have listed their picks for the Best Films of 2008. They not only named Hindi films but a British film set in India and two Hollywood films were also among the chosen ones. Here is the list compiled by Subhash K Jha.

Rock On!! Was mentioned the most with 10 and is included on the best of 2008 lists of Imtiaz Ali, Vipul Shah, Satish Kaushik, Nikhil Advani, Kunal Kohli, Kabir Khan, Jagmohan Mundhra, Rahul Dholakia, Hansal Mehta and Rakesh Roshan.

A Wednesday was also listed by many of the filmmakers Gulzar, Rakesh Roshan, Vipul Shah, Nikhil Advani, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Jagmohan Mundhra, Hansal Mehta, Soham Shah and Satish Kaushik.

Rakesh Roshan, Vipul Shah and Siddharth Anand included Jodhaa Akbar on their lists.

Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! got four votes with Imtiaz Ali, Kabir Khan, Vijay Krishna Acharya and Hansal Mehta including it as best film of 2008.

Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na was also deemed one of the best by Vipul Shah, Kunal Kohli, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Hansal Mehta and Satish Kaushik.

Recently released Ghajini topped Kunal Kohli, Ken Ghosh and Soham Shah lists!

Mumbai Meri Jaan also made the list of Imtiaz Ali, Vipul Shah, Jagmohan Mundhra and Anant Mahadevan.

Khuda Kay Liye was named on two directors picks: Rahul Dholakia and Anant Mahadevan

Gulzar also listed Yuvvraaj as one his favorites.

Dostana got one vote by Kabir Khan.

Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi also made the list of Siddharth Anand, along with Bachna Ae Haseeno.

Soham Shah included Fashion in his four best films!

Kanchivaram, Priyadarshan’s Tamil film was part of Anant Mahadevan’s list

The Hollywood film The Dark Knight was on two directors best picks: Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Vijay Krishna Acharya. Acharya also included the Hollywood film Across The Universe as his best of 2008.

Finally, we have Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra named it one of the best films of 2008.
