The first look at Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s new film Delhi 6, starring Sonam Kapoor and Abhishek Bachchan premiered at the Dubai International Film Festival this week. The highly anticipated film has a tagline of “The Journey Within” and it follows the journey of Abhishek’s character from New York back to Delhi but it is also a journey of finding himself and India as well.

The 45-second teaser does not give much a way. With beautiful background music playing; you see a few small flashes of scenes including a gorgoeus Sonam, an incredible stage play, city scenes and just the back of Abhishek looking over Delhi with a bit of New York thrown in. Even with just the glimpse they give you, you are immediately intrigued about how this story will unfold.

The story does have parts of director Mehra’s life from when he lived in Chandni Chowk and he says his films often have aspects of himself in them, “Cinema is fantastic. But even then, the movies that I make are so very much a part of my real life, that they make my feelings and emotions very obvious in front of the audience. It’s like being stripped. The best part about cinema is that you can have fun with it, and still get across a message, a moral.”

Abhishek Bachchan is very excited about the film and said making it was a wonderful experience, “It has been absolutely magical for me, I truly enjoyed it, it gave me the opportunity to work with Rakeysh, who has been a very, very dear friend of mine and somebody I have been wanting to work with for a very long time. It also gave me the opportunity to work with two of my favorite actors, Rishi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman, and work on a wonderful script.”

He also had nothing but the highest of praise for co-star Sonam Kapoor saying, “She’s a wonderful girl, all full of life, and exuberant, she’s always smiling and I admire that about her, it is wonderful to see that kind of confidence she has, because this is her second film and she was put in front of the camera with the likes of Om Puri and Rishi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman. And these are stalwarts and I think the best in the business would be scared to stand in front of and to hold your honour in front of them takes a lot of guts and a great amount of confidence and talent, and she’s really come off wonderful in the film and she’s a wonderful wonderful talent.”

About the message of the film Bachchan said, “I like to think that the audience will come out of Delhi 6 questioning the way they lead their lives, asking why they do what they do and if it serves any good purpose.”

The film, produced by UTV Motion Pictures, is scheduled for release on February 20th! We will keep you up to date on all the Delhi 6 news so watch this space for more!
