The famous K3G dialogue spoken by actress Kajol comes to mind when we think about the two Kings of Bollywood, Amitabh Bachchan and Shahrukh Khan–the former host and the existing host of ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati.’ Earlier this year SRK replaced Amitabh in the popular game show’s third season but he did that only after a written statement from Amitabh was shown saying that he did not want to continue working for KBC.
Today, the Bollywood industry is inevitably known as a competitive and cut throat place to be; a place where one must be ruthlessly ambitious for themselves by ignoring friendships and relationships. Actors and actresses replace one another in the blink of an eye. But, there are some who don’t follow this policy, some like our very own, Shahrukh Khan. “Shahrukh is great at interacting with audiences.” says colleague and guest star, Rani Mukherji, on the third season’s KBC “He really makes the guests feel comfortable. The way he hosts KBC and helps make the contestants feel at home with him, I think that casualness and playful attitude really makes the show a lot more interesting because you have people talking to Shahrukh in a way that you wouldn’t normally have people talking to stars.”
Shahrukh Khan has been frequently compared to Amitabh Bachchan and according to media reports there is also a professional rivalry between the two actors. First, Khan did the remake of Don, a film which originally starred Amitabh back in the 80’s. Subsequently following Don, Shahrukh seized interest in Big B’s small screen success, KBC.
In both Don and KBC, the two stars have brought their individual styles to the table. Mr. Bachchan—a well-respected, graceful, and immensely intimidating legend—once brought a conservative approach to KBC. However, once Khan stepped up to the plate, his charming wit and livelihood won hearts of all ages. But, the real question is: Is KBC better or worse with Shahrukh Khan as the new host?
