The centenary of Indian Cinema may have passed, but that doesn’t stop people from celebrating its phenomenal legacy! The world’s first Hindi acapella group Penn Masala, formed by students at the University of Pennsylvania in 1996, have paid tribute to Bollywood in a unique form. Penn Masala have acquired popular status over time. They have released nine albums, in addition to performing at universities and events worldwide.
The group have now released a cool video of them singing in acapella style to Bollywood songs from the 1940s all the way up to the present time. From ‘Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki’ (Dayal, 1949), to ‘Badtameez Dil’ (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, 2013).
Penn Masala have done a splendid job in singing a range of songs from various decades in five minutes and eight seconds. They even wear costumes which represent different decades; from 1950s style suits, to modern jeans, shirts and waistcoats that represent the noughties.
BollySpice loves Penn Masala’s tribute to Bollywood and we think you will too! Check it out here and witness a captivating show in just over 5 minutes!
