When Farhan Akhtar was approached by A.R. Rahman to sing for the upcoming Blue, he was thrilled to bits. Back in May, when he was asked to be a part of the album, the director-producer-actor-singer put off the recording claiming that he had a “sore throat” due to an allergic reaction he has to dust, which he came in contact with while shooting in the studio for Kartik Calling Kartik. He did seem rather excited then, “Rahman has approached me and yes, I’m singing for him. It’s a club-based song and I guess my voice goes well with the smoky mood… Now I’ll get to sing for someone else and that too a song composed by Rahman. Yeah, I guess it’s a leap forward.” However, the album is out today and Farhan is not a part of the album.

It seems that Farhan actually refused to sing for Rahman as he too wants to go the Himesh Reshammiya way and sing for his own films only. While he never actually verbally say “No” to the Oscar winning music director, the silence and no reply was understood by Rahman who eventually moved on to ask another singer to take over the song. While the industrywala’s were shocked, after Rahman personally requested Akhtar to sing the song, director Tony D’Souza clarified, “We were very keen to have Farhan sing for us. But he couldn’t. So we got Vijay Prakash for ‘Fiqrana’.” Even before Farhan was approached for the song, Rahman had offered the number to Himesh Reshammiya who too refused.
