FICCI honors the ‘Most Powerful Entertainers of the Decade’

The FICCI (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) held its annual Frames convention and this year it had an extra event. Partnered with the IIFA they held the first annual IIFA FICCI Awards. Honored were 10 Bollywood stars, 2 yesteryear legends and a Hollywood actor at the exciting event.

The who’s who of Bollywood turned out to see Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Shahrukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Shilpa Shetty, Preity Zinta and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan named the ‘Most Powerful Entertainers of the Decade’ and for their contributions to the Hindi film industry. Also recgonized were Sharmila Tagore and Shashi Kapoor with the Living Legends of Entertainment award. Hollywood actor Danny Glover was given an Lifetime Achievement Award.

Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and Shilpa Shetty were all there to receive their awards. Priyanka said, “Receiving this in such a short span of time I feel is a kind of validation of the fact that may be I am doing something right.” While Preity Zinta said,“I am really proud to be a part of the Indian film industry.”

Shamila Tagore was also at the ceremony and said about her Living Legends award, “Most of the times the star takes away credit for the film but its the make-up man, the hair stylist, the light man, the camera crew and the director who work hard to make them look good on screen, so I think they should be honored too.”

Upon winning his award Mr. Glover said, “It is an extraordinary feeling. It is wonderful. I am honoured. I have known India and Indian cinema since I was 18 and I am 65 now.” Amitabh Bachchan wrote of Mr. Glover’s speech on his blog, “He(Danny Glover) is being decorated by FICCI-IIFA at this Global Convention and after his award starts his speech by paying tribute to ‘the greatest actor in the world Mr Amitabh Bachchan. I am embarrassed beyond repair. If there was space beneath my chair I would have disappeared in there.”

Mr. Bachchan, who is the brand ambassador for IIFA, was one of the ten honored with most powerful entertainers of the decade award said, “I once asked my father what it was about the Indian cinema that was so attractive and he said you get a poetic justice in three hours. I am very honoured to receive this recognition. I have been working in this industry for the last 40 years and appreciate this felicitation.”
