Prolific filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, director of Raaz, Ghulami and numerous other horror/thrillers was arrested along with six others in a ₹30 crore cheating case by Rajasthan Police in Mumbai.
As per the FIR registered at the Bhupalpura police station in Udaipur, the complainant, Dr Ajay Murdia, the owner of Indira IVF Hospital, alleged that Vikram Bhatt and his team lured him into investing over Rs30 crore in a film project. He was reportedly assured that the film would earn profits of up to Rs200 crore. The Udaipur police issued a lookout notice against the director, his wife Shwetambari Bhatt, and six other accused.
As this writer writes of this shocking development, Vikram and his wife are jailed in Udaipur.
A close friend of the director says he is in a state of disbelief. “I can’t believe Vikram would do such a thing. He is a man of integrity, never known to cheat or lie. There must be some mistake. Vikram’s daughter is in a state of shock after both her parents were arrested.”
