After his National Award-winning film Parzania, Rahul Dholakia will finally release his long awaited next on July 16: Lamhaa, a thriller taking place in Jammu and Kashmir and starring Sanjay Dutt, Kunal Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Anupam Kher, Vipin Sharma and Shernaz Patel. “It is through Sanjay that we will see the valley and what is happening there”, says Dholakia who wants to steer clear of the troubled region’s politics or militancy and focus on its people instead. Dholakia had been inspired to make Lamhaa by an encounter with Kashmiri students in Mumbai several years ago. Questioned where they were from, they answered that they came from a beautiful prison called Kashmir where they had lost their identity. Taken aback by these words, Dholakia started researching about Kashmir’s six decades long story of agony, and two years later he started his project Lamhaa which Dholokia said, should be “a film that would project how people are living in Kashmir and how people are living with multiple identities”. Starting October 2008, Lamhaa was shot in Srinagar, Manali, Naggar, on the 13,050-feet high Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul-Spiti, Solang Nullah, Patlikul and in Mumbai. After the first teaser, producer Bunty Walia intends to launch the theatrical trailer on June 4.
