Love Aaj Kal, directed by Imtiaz Ali of Jab We Met fame, will set a new precedent for the love story sub-genre for which Indian cinema is so famous. One of the most enrapturing romances of modern times, marrying traditional Indian cinema with the energy and exuberance of young love, Love Aaj Kal also marks Eros International’s exciting synergy with Saif Ali Khan’s newly formed company, Illuminati Films, and stars the on-screen heartthrob himself alongside spellbinding starlet Deepika Padukone, and veteran actor Rishi Kapoor.
The film essentially has two parts. In the first part, Saif Ali Khan plays the role of a Sardar in Punjab, where he is in love with a local girl. Set in the olden times, the perception of love is very different than what it is in the present. In part two, Saif plays a modern, charming guy, something similar to his real-life persona. His character is from London. He meets Deepika’s character, and is involved in a love triangle with her and another girl. The film concentrates on love, how it was, how it has changed, and how it still affects so many lives in different ways.
