Genelia D’Souza has been signed to play opposite Shahid Kapur in Ken Ghosh’s tentatively-titled Yahoo! “The film revolves around dance and my character is that of an energetic and effervescent choreographer,” she says, “I am looking forward to playing this role as it is different from what I have done in the past.”
Genelia has a long list of big-banner titles lining up for release this year including Boney Kapoor’s It’s My Life, Abbas Mustan’s Life Partners and UTV’s Hook Ya Crook with John Abraham. “Fortunately for me, each of the roles I’m doing is different from the other,” she explains. She’s also filming in Tollywood at the moment for Sasirekha Parinayam, a suspense thriller.
Where did Genelia, a graduate in Management Studies, get such an interesting name? “My name Genelia is actually a combination of my mom and dad’s name (Jeaneate and Neil). I keep asking my mom what Genelia means and she says it means rare or unique so I think that’s what it means.” According to BabyNames.com, Genelia was in the bottom 1% of baby names in 2006, or 20,085th most popular name overall. After the success of Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, it is now in the top 2% of names or 1111th most popular name overall.
