Genelia D’Souza, a well known South Indian actress who also made her mark in the Hindi film Masti, is currently starring in the film, Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. The film is a production of Aamir Khan’s banner and it the vehicle for launching his cute nephew Imraan Khan.
About getting the role in the film Genelia said, “Abbas Tyrewala had approached me a while ago for Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na. At that time, I was shooting for Bommarillu. So I was in the project even before Aamir Khan or his nephew [and lead actor] Imran Khan were involved. Jammu Sughand was the producer then. Due to some problems between Abbas and him, the project got shelved.”
“Then Aamir came into this project, and was supposed to launch Imraan. Aamir was on the lookout of an actress, and saw many girls. But he did not find anyone interesting. Meanwhile, I had finished Bommarillu and took a month off. That’s when I received a call from Aamir Khan’s office. He had seen my screen test. Within a week, I was in. I am a part of this project because it is Aamir Khan’s production. I knew I would have a terrific working experience,” she went on to say.
The story of Jaane Tu is a romantic one she explained, “Jaane Tu… is a love story, a wholesome entertainer. My character is called Aditi.”
Adding, “Even though Aamir Khan’s nephew was being launched, I did not feel sidelined. In a love story, the female character is equally important. So there were no apprehensions.”
About working with Aamir she put to rest a misconception about him, “ Aamir came on the sets and met us on the first day of the shoot. He never came after that. The myth that Aamir interferes is wrong. I don’t know if Abbas and Aamir were meeting some other place and watching the rushes and discussing them. But I don’t think Aamir interferes. I never saw Aamir on the sets so I am not in a position to talk about it.”
Genelia was impressed with Imraan and said, “Even though Imraan was new, he was a thoroughly professional. He did not have an attitude just because he was Aamir Khan’s nephew. We developed a good rapport, thanks to a workshop. And this can be seen on screen.”
Adding, “Imraan is talented and passionate about the project.”
Genelia will also be seen in Priyadarshan’s Mere Baap Pehle Aap with Akshaye Khanna, Paresh Rawal, Om Puri, and Rajpal Yadav. Also in the pipeline is a Hindi remake of Bommarillu, the wonderful Telegu hit film, which will co-star Harman Baweja and be directed by Anees Bazmee.
