The hottest new girl in town this summer is Genelia D’Souza. The bubbling, sparkly girl next door will be seen in what are predicted to be three of the summer’s biggest hits. Firstly, she will be on screen with Akshaye Khanna in Mere Baap Pehle Aap — but then she will follow up by starring opposite two of the biggest newcomers of the year, new generation stars Imran Khan in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and Harman Baweja in It’s My Life.
The Southern charmer with a big history in Tollywood and Kollywood is excited about being back in Bollywood. “It feels fabulous to be back with a bang,” she says. “I am looking forward to seeing what kind of a welcome I get with these releases.”
Genelia has already won two Filmfare Best Actress Awards — in two languages. In Tamil for Boys, her first big hit, and in Telugu for Bommarillu, the film she is now currently remaking as It’s My Life with Harman.
What are Genelia’s long-term plans? “I am not exactly in a position to talk or make any long-term plans,” she explains. “I like to take things as they come. I am happy with what I have. Sometimes if you plan too much, you may be too disappointed if they don’t happen.”
