The big event in South cinema opens its doors today as the stars gather for the South Filmfare Awards Festival at the Novotel in Hyderabad, the heart of Tollywood. Genelia D’Souza will be performing at the awards and has been nominated as Best Actress for her role in Santosh Subramaniam, originally in Tamil, later remade as Bommarillu in Telegu and now as It’s My Life with Harman Baweja in Hindi. “I will be performing to a medley of songs from Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films,” says Genelia, “I have been so busy shooting that I have hardly had any time to rehearse. I hope all goes well tonight.”
Six films are competing for the Best Film Award in the biggest section – Telegu: Asta Chamma, Gamyam, Jalsaa, Kottha Bangaru Lokam, Parugu, and Ready with Ileana’s Jalsaa considered the favourite by many. In the Best Actress section for Telegu, Trisha has the hot money on her for her role in Khrishna whilst in the male section, loyalties seem divided between Jnr NTR for Kantri and Ravi Teja for Khrishna.
Meanwhile, Genelia’s career goes from strength to strength. Currently promoting Life Partner with Fardeen Khan, she is already looking forward to her next release, Ken Ghosh’s media titiled Yahoo and is busy working on Katha, which she considers to be her best Telegu work yet. “I am allowed to experiment with my roles in Hyderabad,” she says, “My latest release will be Katha, which is a dark film and I will be exhibiting a completely different character in that film.”
