Early reviews have been raves for the romantic comedy Running Shaadi starring Taapsee Pannu, Amit Sadh, Arsh Bajwa, and Brijendra Kala and directed by Amit Roy, which is set for release tomorrow world wide.
The film tells the story of 23-year-old Ram Bharose and his teenaged whiz-kid Sardar befriend Sarabjeet Sidhaana A.K.A. ‘Cyberjeet’ and strike upon an ingenious brainwave of starting a website that helps young couples in Amritsar elope and get married. The website is called Running Shaadi and it offers a comprehensive array of services to facilitate runaway weddings. The website becomes an instant hit with young, love-struck couples facing pressure from their parents and the site becomes a rage in small town Amritsar. While they are successful in getting many couples together, the underlying story of Running Shaadi lends itself to an unexpected twist. What happens with the site, along with the absurdities of making couples elope, is the catch of the film that lends an humorous joy ride.
Amit Roy, who is making his directorial debut with the film, says both Taapsee and her co-star Amit Sadh were “thorough professionals” who used to have several brainstorming sessions with the team. “Everyday, Taapsee, Amit, our writer Navjot Gulati and I used to rehearse. We worked a lot and improvised with them. Taapsee and Amit brought a lot of dialogues to the film. We would record it and then add those in the script. Finally what we shot, it comes from all the actors. They brought in their life, observations,” the director said.
Producer Shootjit Sircar had nothing but praise for Taapsee Pannu’s performance, “I was blown away. Running Shaadi.com is Taapsee Pannu. She is the film. You actually desire that in every frame she is there. She sets the screen on fire. The day Amit showed me a small clip I was sold out. She was so nice.”
