Making noise ever since its announcement, the highly anticipated comedy-drama ‘Tumse Na Ho Payega’ is now premiering on Disney + Hotstar. Helmed by Abhishek Sinha and written by Nitesh Tiwari, Nikhil Mehrotra and Varun Agarwal, the film is Produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, Ronnie Screwvala, Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari. Based on the novel ‘How I Braved Anu Aunty and Co-Founded a Million Dollar Company, ‘Tumse Na Ho Payega’ is a light-hearted take on the modern-day challenges faced by today’s youth, and their dilemma in standing up to these rules laid by society.

Sharing an inside story of how the film came to life, film’s Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur wrote a heartwarming note that was shared on Roy Kapur Films’ social media handle. It read as “I bumped into Varun Agarwal – literally! – as I was leaving the stage after a talk at IIM-Lucknow, and he was walking onto the stage as the next speaker. Recovering remarkably swiftly from our collision, he handed me a copy of his new book “How I Braved Any Aunty and Co-Founded a Million Dollar Company” and told me it would be a fun read for my flight back to Mumbai. And how right he was! I must have been a very annoying co-passenger, as I kept breaking into raucous laughter while reading it.

A few days later I happened to tell Nitesh Tiwari about the book since we were meeting quite often those days working together on Dangal. Nitesh told me he had also just read and loved the book – and right then and there we decided to acquire the rights and make it! The support for the project kept growing….Nitesh and Nikhil Mehrotra wrote an amazing screenplay adaptation; RSVP loved the book just as much as we did and came on board; and Star Studios and Disney Hotstar backed it to the hilt and gave it the platform it has today. Nitesh and Ashwiny’s idea to hand the directorial reins to Abhishek Sinha was a genius move because Abhishek brilliantly brought together his young and enthusiastic cast and crew to give the film an energy and verve that is just so unique and refreshing!

This is a story that I think everyone who has been in an unfulfilling job, with dreams of doing something of their own, will relate to. Anyone who has ever been told by naysayers – “tumse na ho payega” – will laugh and cry with our protagonists as they make their way from frustration to fulfilment.

I’m so happy to have bumped into the intrepid Varun Agarwal that day in Lucknow, and it reaffirms my belief that great stories can come your way from just about anywhere – what’s important is to always be looking out for them!”

The special note was captioned, “Think great stories can’t start from chance meetings? Well here’s one straight from #SiddharthRoyKapur 🧡✨”
