The script for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, which starred Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, has been given a prestigious honor. The original screenplay has been invited to be a part of the permanent collection at the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Oscar’s Margaret Herrick Library houses a reference and research collection dedicated to films and has one of the most extensive collections of movie-related materials ever assembled. Not only does it have 80,000 screenplays, the library also houses over 10 million photographs, 300,000 clipping files, 38,000 movie posters and 32,000 books. The script collection, where Guzaarish will be placed, is a resource for students, writers, actors and filmmakers.

Painted in Bhansali’s gorgeous film palette, Guzaarish tells the tale of Ethan Mascarenhas (Hrithik Roshan), who was once the greatest magician in the world. Tragedy struck while doing one of his illusions and Ethan was immobilized by a spinal injury. He is cared for by his nurse Sofia D’Souza (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) and though they love, they never speak of it. After fourteen years of his life as quadriplegic, making it the best life he can for himself and for many others, Ethan makes a decision and a guzaarish. He wants the right to die. What happens, well that is the rest of the story.

It is a role that Hrithik says changed him, “I think through my journey with all the characters I have played I have always been inclined to doing characters I would look up to. From each character that I have played, I think I have imbibed in my own life the good qualities, which I saw in that character. With Ethan, I think it was not just imbibing; he just changed me as a person. It was a real gift in my life to have gone through this experience.”

As a special treat for our BollySpice readers we also have an exclusive making of the film! Check it out!
