Shahid Kapoor has said that he found the task of playing the classic Shakespearean character Hamlet to be very demanding and required a lot from him as an actor. Having spoken about his role at the trailer launch of Haider, Shahid will be seen opposite Shraddha Kapoor, Tabu and Irrfan Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj’s forthcoming directorial; which also marks the third instalment of his Shakespearean adaptations (the other two being Maqbool and Omkara). Shahid also worked previously with Vishal Bhardwaj in the hit film Kaminey, which won him a lot of critical acclaim.

“Vishal sir gave me the best role of my life in Kaminey. It is amazing to work with him again. It is a rare opportunity and very few actors get to play Hamlet,” said Shahid at the trailer launch. “This is one role that makes you feel very inadequate as an actor. When I was on the sets, I used to run to everybody for assurance. I would ask Vishal sir and the cast members ‘Do you think I got it right?’”

Shahid also said that he was very excited to be working with Vishal Bhardwaj again as he knows that the renowned filmmaker never offers ‘run-of-the-mill’ films that have been countlessly narrated before. “Very few filmmakers give you the opportunity to act which demands from them more than what they are used to giving. Vishal has been that filmmaker. “When he calls for you a project, you know that it is not something regular or run-of-the-mill.”
