The sultry siren of Omkara is 30 years old today. Happy Birthday to Bipasha Basu. She had a stunning 2008 with back-to-back hits in Race and Bachna Ae Haseeno and is looking forward to a great start in 2009 with appearances in Pankh, the difficult Lamha and the Bengali movie Shrob Charitro Kalponik.
How does she intend to spend her birthday? “I’ll spend the day on the beach, visit the spa and have food,” she says, “I have come in Mumbai on Tuesday to celebrate my birthday again with my parents and friends. I am also thinking of making special delicious gajar ka halwa as a treat.”
For the troubled production of Lamha, Bips is keen to dispel the commonly-held notions of what Kashmiri girls must always look like. “When you think of a Kashmiri girl in our movies, what comes to mind is a fair-skinned, light-eyed girl,” she explains, “But I want to disprove that myth. The pre-conceived notions have to be overcome.”
Bipasha was recently voted by one poll as the sexiest woman in Asia and whilst she is beginning to look for more serious roles, it’s clear her fans from the days of Jism, No Entry and Corporate still adore her.
