Holi is normally a grand affair in Mumbai; especially amongst the filmy folk who head out and paint the city different colors, literally and figuratively, as many of the predominate Bollywood families organize great galas for their friends and contemporaries. This year will be different though. Post the 26/11 attacks, most of the fraternity this year have decided to give the colorful festival of Holi a miss in wake of the Mumbai Attacks that occurred in November last year.

The Bachchan household will not be celebrating Holi in all its grandeur this year. Abhishek and Aishwarya will be shooting in Kolkata for Mani Ratnam’s Ravana instead. Bachchan Senior also went on to write on his blog, “That joyous spirit has been dampened by the atrocities that our city faced on 26/11. In its wake somewhere inside us there is a reluctance to involve ourselves in any kind of exhibition.”

The same will be for Subash Ghai, Shah Rukh Khan and Farah Khan who are all letting Holi pass in a subdued manner.

On the other hand, some members of the Bollywood family refuse to succumb and allow the Terror Attacks to stop them from celebrating. Shabana Azmi and Javed Akhtar, who host the biggest bash in the fraternity, will go on with their Holi celebrations. “We all are very sad and angry… but that does not mean we should give terrorists the itinerary to decide events,” was Akhtar’s response to being questioned about the quiet Holi celebrated by some.

Shilpa Shetty has also organized a Holi bash for her Rajasthan IPL Cricket team; Mukesh Bhatt will be holding a small party in honor of his new movie Jashn, as is Anurag Kashyap who is celebrating on the brink of Gulaal‘s release.
