HOMEBOUND makes Shortlist for Best International Feature Film Oscar

Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan and starring Ishaan Khatter, Vishal Jethwa and Janhvi Kapoor, has been selected to be a part of the shortlist in the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards®. It is one of 15 films still in the running for the final nomination list and perhaps to hear, “And the Oscar goes to…”

The film focuses on two young men, played by Ishaan Khatter and Vishal Jethwa, who are living in quiet desperation, wanting more, wanting to make a change for themselves and their families, and to get a seat at the table, but the world, the caste system, and religious racism and persecution keep throwing up roadblocks. It is also set in a time when the world stopped (if you know, you know), and it offers a perspective of that time that many of us were unaware of. Experiencing what others faced will change you, and the film has certainly changed and moved audiences all over the world.

Homebound had its World Premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in the prestigious Un Certain Regard section. It secured further acclaim at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it was named Second Runner-Up for the International People’s Choice Award.

Earlier, Director Neeraj Ghaywan said, “I’m deeply honoured that Homebound has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars. Rooted in the love for our land and our people, it carries the essence of the home we all share. To take our stories to the world and represent India at one of the biggest global stages for cinema is both humbling and a matter of pride, and for this I’m extremely grateful.”

About the inclusion on the shortlist Producer Karan Johar wrote, “I am not sure I can articulate how proud, elated and over the moon I am with the journey of HOMEBOUND… all of us Dharma Movies are privileged to have this proud and important film in our filmography … thank you Neeraj Ghaywan for making so many dreams of ours come true… from Cannes to being on the Oscar shortlist this has been such an overwhelming journey! Love to the entire cast and crew and teams of this special special film!!!! Upwards and Onwards!”
