Yes, folks after much speculation, as we reported earlier the Agneepath remake produced by Karan Johar and directed by Karan Malhotra will not have Abhishek Bachchan but will have Hrithik Roshan stepping into Amitabh Bachchan’s role in the cult classic.
Even after stories of Hrithik being confirmed for the role, speculation rose that he backed out of the film earlier this year as Guzaarish was his main priority. Adding to this was the news that Abhishek had been offered the role that fetched Amitabh Bachchan a National Award. However, both pieces of information have turned out to be false, with Hrithik’s involvement being confirmed by Karan Johar and also Abhishek himself when he speaking to Indo-Asian News Service. “I wish him good luck. I think it’s a very brave thing to do. If you think of top 10 characters of Hindi cinema, Vijay Dinanath Chauhan is up there. It’s difficult but I have immense respect for Duggu (Hrithik) as an actor”. Abhishek, who awaits his latest Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey to release this Friday, adds he was never asked to do the role.
But wait there’s more. While Hrithik steps into the iconic Vijay character, it has been reported by Times of India that Sanjay Dutt has also joined the cast as “Kancha Chenna”. If you can remember, the last time we saw these two together was in Mission Kashmir back in 2000 in which Sanjay was the protagonist. Now 10 years later, we will see the two doing a role reversal and whats more, Sanjay is said to looking at shaving his head clean for a new look in the film. But where does that leave Rishi Kapoor, who was already confirmed for the film? Well, it seems director Karan Malhotra has another very special character for him, which will have him shown in shades of grey.
