It is time for a Bollywood movie to make some serious dent at the box office. In fact post Besharam blues are so high amongst the audience that something really big has to happen in theatres so as to bring the B-Town out of depression, which it has been finding itself in, what with the last Superhit being Grand Masti. Hence, if Boss turns out to be even reasonably entertaining, it is all set to be grabbed by the audience.
There are some big numbers all set to be chased here. Akshay Kumar’s biggest grosser stays on to be Rowdy Rathore which released last year. The film has managed a 48 crore weekend for itself. Now Boss should ensure at least this total, especially with a five day weekend at it’s disposal. The film has been hyped well, the buzz is good, the promos promise a ‘desi’ entertainer and the release is going to be massive. Of course it would ultimately all boil down to the content, which has always been the case. However, given the kind of ‘masala’ that the film carries, one expects a fun filled film by Anthony D’Souza.
All set to open on over 3000 screens, the film is arriving mid-week on Wednesday but point to be noted is that it is not a holiday across the country. Hence, it would be unfair to expect a 20 crore opening day here. With opening footfalls in 50%-60% range, a wide release should lead to a start in the vicinity of 15 crore, which should be good. From there on, it is the content that would do the talking. Traditionally, time period between Dussehra and Diwali sees dip in collections due to festivities kicking in. However, with 15 open days available for Boss till Krrish 3 arrives, it has a stage wide open to make hay.
