What is it like being the best-known Indian chef in the world? If you want to embarrass Vikas Khanna on his birthday, ask the modest king of cuisines this question.
Says Vikas, “You know, I’ve never stopped to look at my life with awe: arrey maine kya achieve kar liya! Aisa kuch nahin. I need to keep pushing.”
He credits his late sister for his global success. “When Radhika was dying, she held my hand and said, ‘You have achieved whatever there is to achieve. You have excelled in bringing French food to the people in its most sophisticated form. Wohsab toh ho gaya. Now it is time for you to build a restaurant serving Indian food in New York, where customers would come not only for the best Indian food possible, but also to experience Indian hospitality in all its glory. I told my sister it is too difficult to open an Indian restaurant in New York, mujhse nahin hoga, I have too much on my plate. But she insisted and made me promise. It is because of her that The Bungalow (restaurant in NY) is what it is today. People have to sometimes wait for nine months for reservations.”

The best-looking chef, Vikas Khanna, in the world is single. And ready to mingle.
As he turned a year older on November 14, Vikas shared his heart-break story. “Many people ask me if I’ve given up on love, and the answer is an emphatic no. It’s just that I chose the wrong relationship. I was in love and I thought it would last forever. It didn’t. Thereafter my insecurities and my career obsessions have put love on backseat.”
But Vikas hasn’t given up on love. “I think when an individual’s journey is navigated by extreme circumstances, the one thing that you may miss out on is a personal life. But never in my life would I tell anyone that failure in love means a full stop. It just means you need to start another chapter in your life.”
The masterchef confesses he is in love with the idea of love. “I am very passionate about love. I hope I meet the right partner soon. I hope we appreciate each other’s scars. I hope we understand each other’s journey. Age can never be a barrier in love. Finding a true partner is essential in life. I am waiting for love.”
