Every year thousands of cinegoers aniticpate the coming of the International Indian Film Academy Awards. Not only do these set of awards take the whole film industry into a foreign country but also is one of the most acclaimed awards in the industry. A night of spectacular performances, appreciation of the fine arts of cinema in the past year, and of course, a night of celebration.

IIFA Awards 2007 was held in Yorkshire, UK this year and like always the fashion on the green carpet was an eyeopener. BollySpice now brings you our thoughts on the fashion at IIFA. What we thought was hot and what certainly was not!

We’ll begin with the scene stealer of the evening without a doubt! Aishwarya Bachchan (Rai) looked like a true angel in a beautiful light pink lehenga. Her makeup and hair were simple and delicate in unison with the feel of the outfit. Once again the former Miss World looked stunning and flawless!

From stunning we go to not so stunning. Bipasha Basu who proudly boasts about the hard work she has put into those abs of hers was not hesitant the slightest bit to showcase them in a sultry red dress. However the dress wasn’t the problem in her attire for the night, it was her makeup. Looks like our Bips was trying something new with the eyes and certainly didn’t achieve positive results.
–>Take a look yourself:

Not only the eyes but the hair looked big, giving her face a weird shape. Next time Bips is on the green carpet, make sure she is reminded that in order to pull off a stunning dress, you need equally stunning makeup and hair. It’s a package deal after all!

Talk of the town Shilpa Shetty emerged in a beautiful Aqua gown. Simple with a beautiful neckline, Shilpa certainly looked beyond stunning! However now that we see her every second of the day at some event or the other, she should consider perhaps trying a new look with her hair. It certainly gets a bit monotonous to see the same old layered hair, shaped around her face. However being monotonous certainly doesn’t change the fact that she looked great on the night!

If Ash was a scene stealer of the night, than Kangana Ranaut’s gorgeous golden gown certainly would have gotten heads turning as she walked down the green carpet. The fantastic new comer dared to bare quite a bit with a deep neck line golden formal gown. Gowns such as that haven ‘t been seen on any stars in the Indian Cinemas in the past, however are quite common in Hollwyood and have been seen on stars like J Lo. Kangana pulled of the gown with elegance and style brilliantly.

Soha Ali Khan looked like true princess in her beautiful angelic white gown. However the only problem with Soha’s look for the night was the plaster to the sides of her face. She really needs to get those two back in shape.

Along with Soha, Lara Dutta also endorsed a white gown. However Lara didn’t quite look as stunning. The former Miss Universe perhaps needs to hit the gym sometime soon before it’s too late!

Preity Zinta once again pulled off a casual outfit fantastically! If there is anyone who can walk the red carpet in a stunning skirt and top whilst the other ladies are gliding in formal gowns, it is her! She looked cute and beautiful sporting a simple outfit along with a simple hairstyle.

Bengali Beauty Raima Sen sported a stunning red gown and curls. Simple with nothing too out of the ordinary, yet looking totaly beautiful!

Katrina Kaif also hopped onto the “simple” bandwagon with a gorgeous off white and black dress with lace. Her hair too was in loose curls. Only thing that could have added to her glamour on the night would be a simple necklace as her neckline was low and looked quite empty. A simple necklace would have been the perfect addition.

Geeta Basra endorsed a beautiful yellow sari whilst the majority of the other ladies preferred Western attires. The outfit looked great, however once again Geeta disadvantaged her own stunning face with that horrible foundation! Someone needs to go hide that foundation or just totally and utterly get rid of it! A stunning face like hers doesn’t need an oily covering!

The guys all looked handsome and dashing with he exception of Arshad Warsi, who God knows why ventured near a hair straightener! Hrithik Roshan definitely was the scene stealer in the guy camp. A stunning suit with a maroon inner lining along with a totally sleek and clean shaven look, certainly had all the ladies running after him!

All in all, IIFA 07 didn’t have any outrageous fashion display thankfully! However many stars didn’t attend, such as Rani Mukerji and Vidya Balan who always have a controversial attires. IIFA outfits will remain memorable, especially that of Ash’s and Kangana’s, until next year when we all get bowled over by another batch of outfits!
