IIFA ambassador Amitabh Bachchan was cooking up more than just praise for his performance in The Last Lear while he was in Toronto the last week. Apparently, he has been pushing the proposition that the 2009 IIFA awards be held in Toronto.
He says, “Toronto is a location that we haven’t been to before and it has a large [South] Asian community.” If it pulls through, this would mean a tourism boost for Toronto which was recently demonstrated when 30, 000 visitors poured into Yorkshire for the awards earlier this year.
Other areas in competition for the 2009 awards show are New York, Cologne and Turin though it seems Toronto is leading the fight so far. An official decision will be made and announced in February.
