The teaser of Applause Entertainment and Imtiaz Ali’s Main Vaapas Aaunga shows three generations of heroes from the Sikh community separated by desolating degrees of love.

It shows director Ali bringing back his resplendent skills from his early films, notably Love Aaj Kal in 2009 and Jab We Met a couple of years earlier.

Main Vaapas Aaunga is set during the Partition in 1947 when many Indians lost their home and loved ones.

Asked Imtiaz Ali, “Can love really be lost? Can home be taken away from someone’s heart? The biggest story of the century is migration. I feel privileged to get the chance to tell such a story on celluloid.“

Ali revealed that Main Vaapas Aaunga comes from real-life stories of separation. “This tale of fiction derives almost entirely from stories of people during the Partition. The past is always present. And decades later, when all incidents of woe have been spoken of, what remains is the early feeling of love that was too personal to share. The nostalgia of who we love and where we belong lives with us forever. This personal treasure sustains us and defines the quality of our lives.”

Adding, “It’s about what is left with us when everything else is lost. The love that refuses to be left behind guides us through the highs and lows of life and remains the everlasting song on our lips and smile in our heart. The film has a large canvas, yet is very personal. It is a story of a boy and a girl, but also a country. In Applause Entertainment, we have found the ideal partners in thought and action to bring out the best in the film.”
