UTV Motion Pictures starts shooting India’s first ever 3D dance film, ABCD. Prabhu Deva, international dance diva Lauren Gottlieb of So You Think You Can Dance fame, several famed choreographers and India’s dancing sensations are set to groove to Remo D’Souza’s direction.

It is strange to think that India, a country that is known for it’s dancing the world over, hasn’t really made great movies purely on dancing. So, it was but natural that UTV Motion Pictures, which has always been a front-runner in making pathbreaking, entertaining blockbusters, would be the production house to come forward and make India’s first high-octane dance film in 3D.

Titled ABCD (Any Body Can Dance), the film is being directed by Remo D’Souza, whose last movie F.A.L.T.U was a runaway hit. India’s best choreographers and dancers of the last few decades – Prabhu Deva, Ganesh Acharya play key characters in the film. ABCD also stars hit reality dancing show Dance India Dance winners like Salman Khan, Dharmesh, Prince, Mayuresh and Vrushali all essaying central characters. Lauren Gottlieb, the global winner of So You Think You Can Dance has been cast as the heroine of ABCD.

Announcing the project, Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO of UTV Motion Pictures says, “We are thrilled to kick off one of our most exciting projects to date, ABCD (Any Body Can Dance), India’s first ever 3D dance film. It has always been our endeavour to bring audiences movies that are different from the tried and tested, and with ABCD we believe we’re pushing the boundaries of innovative content. Remo has proven to everyone that he is not only a sensational choreographer but also a director who knows the pulse of today’s audience. He’s the best choice to direct a film based on dance, and with Prabhu Deva (who is also directing Rowdy Rathore for us), Ganesh Acharya and other leading lights from India’s dance fraternity in the cast, ABCD promises to be a total paisa-vasool family entertainer.”

Director Remo D’Souza is excited that his dream project has gone on floors. He says, “It is like a dream coming true for me. I had always nurtured the thought of making a film on my passion – dancing. ABCD is a culmination of multiple dreams actually for me – I get to make a dance film and get the one and only Prabhu Deva to dance and act in it. I’m really glad that UTV is supporting me to the hilt to make this film. No other production house would have supported me to realise my vision the way UTV is. I’m also excited that the film’s seeing the union of the best reality show dancers from India (Dance India Dance winners) and the West (winner of the best dance reality dance show of America So you think you can dance) acting in it. So, you can imagine the quality of dancing that you will get to see in ABCD.”

Prabhu Deva adds, “I can feel so much energy on the sets of ABCD. Shooting for the film is an experience by itself. There are so many fantastic young dancers in this film and matching steps with them has been really fun and tough for me at the same time. I feel like a teenager being around them and it’s great to be dancing again. In fact, I feel more like a dancer working in the film than being an actor.”

ABCD will see the sensational music composer duo Sachin-Jigar, who have also incidentally worked with Remo on F.A.L.T.U and belted out chartbusting tracks, work on creating high energy tracks that will become dance anthems in the country. The film is set to release by the end of 2012.
