Without giving away too much of the game – to keep us all intrigued – Madhur Bhandarkar has suggested that there could well be strong links between the character that Kangana Ranaut plays in the movie Fashion and real-life tragic model Geetanjali Nagpal. “Kangana plays a model in the film and goes through a lot in her life,” says Madhur. “She takes on drugs as well. Beyond that I don’t want to comment anything around her role being modeled on Geetanjali. Check out the film and you will know the reality of the situation yourself.”
The performance of Kangana in the movie is rumoured to be breathtaking and a possible favourite for awards at the end of the year. The young actress who won a slew of awards for her role in Mahesh Bhatt’s Gangster then went on to provide a stunning performance in Life in a Metro and then debuted in Kollywood in Dhaam Dhoom. She will soon be seen in Raaz 2, Kites and Happy New Year and is gearing up for a full programme in 2009.
Geetanjali Nagpal was once an A-list model walking the ramps with the likes of Sushmita Sen. Fun-loving and adventurous, she became a celebrity girl but she veered towards the dark side possibly descending into a world of drugs following a visit to Goa. She had a son with her German partner Robert Stuempfl, from whom she was separated. She was found begging in the streets of Delhi and living in temples. She suffered from paranoia but was rescued and returned to society through the efforts of the VIMHANS hospital and the Jindal Girls Hostel. In June of this year, she was allowed to return home and has said she would like to work again in the fashion industry again but not as a model.
