Speaking on the forever-looming enemy of cinema, piracy, Anurag Kashyap shared his rather unique views on the menace.

“I feel cinema should reach maximum number of people and if audiences do not get affordable cinema they do turn cheaper pirate entertainment options. Film makers need to understand that there work should reach more people. Film makers ought to use cinema as a tool to make an impact on society and piracy may just be a way for their message to reach far and wide” – said the director of the recently released and immensely successfully Gangs of Wasseypur.

He went onto credit piracy for his existence in the industry. “I am what I am today simply because of piracy because it was because of piracy that people saw my work. Not all films are legally available in every city. Even Hollywood films that you may want to see aren’t available in your city and therefore often we take the help of piracy because there are no legal alternatives”.

Mr. Kashyap definitely makes a point that will encourage many to stop and rethink their stand however how do those rather protective about their films’ business react to this rather blatant encouragement of the menace that is piracy is yet to be seen.
