A year after its release, Homebound remains a deeply resonant drama, tracing the journey of two childhood friends from a North Indian village as they pursue police jobs in the hope of dignity and a better life. Directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, the film brought together Vishal Jethwa, Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor in a story rooted in friendship, aspiration and social realities.
As Sudha Bharti, Janhvi Kapoor brought a layered and restrained performance to the film. Her portrayal went beyond being a conventional romantic presence, allowing Sudha’s aspirations, vulnerability, strength and emotional complexity to emerge gradually. It was a quieter performance, relying as much on expression and observation as dialogue, and marked a different space in Kapoor’s filmography.
The emotional world of Homebound was further strengthened by Vishal Jethwa and Ishaan Khatter, who brought contrasting shades to their characters and the central friendship. Jethwa’s Chandan carried the weight of ambition and social barriers, while Khatter’s Shoaib brought sensitivity and warmth to the story. From its Cannes 2025 premiere and international festival journey, including TIFF, to its theatrical release on September 26, 2025, Homebound continued to generate conversations around its storytelling and performances. The film was also selected as India’s official entry for the 2026 Oscars, though it did not make the final nomination list.
