The BBC Asian Network broadcast the first ever Asian Download Chart on Saturday 3pm-6pm and urban music star Jay Sean came out on top. Presented by Bobby Friction, the new sales-based chart counted down the 40 biggest tracks of the week, with Sean’s single ‘Do You Remember’ holding the No 1 spot – the perfect present for the star who was celebrating his birthday over the weekend.
Speaking exclusively to the BBC Asian Network, Sean said: “I can’t believe it, I just got some really really good news. I’m here in Las Vegas and it’s my birthday weekend and what better present than to be told that I’m the Number One on the Chart… the Official Asian Download Chart right here with Bobby Friction. Thank you so much for making me Number One and for basically giving me such a really nice birthday present.”
Compiled by The Official Charts Company, the new Top 40 Rundown showcases the best new Asian music and releases and there is more listener interaction than ever before. Based on UK-only Digital Retail Sales, the chart features artist interviews with the latest music news and has frequent link-ups with artists worldwide. The full Top 40 is available online each Saturday at bbc.co.uk/asiannetwork.
Digital sales have increased rapidly over the last few years. In 2009, 98% of all singles sold in the UK were downloads*. Most Asian releases are now available on Digital formats, which further cements the importance for The Official Asian Download Chart.
