Being among one of the very first releases of the New Year, a lot was depending on the musical soundtrack of Meghna Gulzar’s Just Married starring Fardeen Khan and Esha Deol. The excitement level was further increased by the presence of the successful and the current favourite music composer, Pritam and one of Bollywood’s prominent lyricist, Gulzar, who have teamed up for the very first time. The team of Pritish Nandy Communications and Pritam never disappoints us as they previously gave us hit soundtracks for Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena and Ankahee. The bars are set, expectations are high, let’s now see or hear to be correct if Just Married is our just album.
Baat Pakki is an entertaining and joyful track that comes to us in not one, not two but in three versions. The song brings together a host of singers like Shaan, Neeraj Shridhar, Sunidhi, Mahalaxmi and Sukhwinder Singh who render their parts in perfection.
Doha is a sad love song that talks about the heartbreaks of romance. The background music combined with the sombre lyrics helps to create the dark mood of the track. Daler Menhdi gives a powerful and heart-wrenching rendition. This track will most likely be lost amongst the catchy and melodic tracks but it is a great composition nevertheless.
Ram Milaye Jodi is a catchy and cheerful track. It is sung by Sukhwinder Singh, Shaan and Sunidhi; however the track clearly belongs to Sukhwinder. The musical arrangements make this track very peppy. The song is repeated in two versions, remix and sad, both of which are also enjoyable but nothing beats the original.
Jagte Raho is clearly the best track of the album. Sonu Nigam’s soothing vocals and Gulzar’s beautiful lyrics makes the track a delight. The surprising factor here is that Pritam has actually composed this track which is something completely outside of his style. Props to the team for coming up with a winner.
Gudgudee just puts you in a dilemma as to which track is the best, this or the latter one. It is a beautifully orchestrated track mixing together the subtle strokes of the guitar and piano together with the gentle vocals of Sunidhi Chauhan and the ever so sweet lyrics of Gulzar.
The soundtrack of Just Married was a pleasant start to the New Year and another successful album by Pritam and PNC. Pritam should be definitely credited for venturing out of his usual style of music and giving us a collection of heartwarming tracks.
