She may have one of the biggest hits of 2009 to her name in Razz: The Mystery Continues – not to mention a couple of well deserved Filmfare Awards – but that doesn’t mean Kangana Ranaut will be taking refuge in the wild-eyed and troubled women characters she has perfected in such films as Woh Lamhe and Gangster. Kangana is ready to surprise and delight audiences with a full range of characters in her upcoming films! As she says, “Yes, I know I am good in characters of a drug-addict, psychic girl with negative shades. In fact, after Gangster and Woh Lamhe, I’ve been getting many such offers. However, the audience will see a different Kangana in my coming films.”
One such film is Sameer Karnik’s Vaada Raha. Speaking about her character to UNI, Kangana says, “I play love-interest of Bobby Deol, who plays a doctor researching on Cancer. It is a very emotional character.” Unfortunately for Kangana, the film itself has had mixed reviews with most saying that she was wasted in the role that any starlet could have performed.
Perhaps the biggest film looming on the horizon for Kangana is Rakesh Roshan’s Kites. ”I play a salsa-dancer in the film while Hrithik plays the role of my dance instructor. I learnt many dance-steps from Hritik Roshan on the sets of Kites,” gushed Kangana.
More serious will be her turn in Anurag Basu’s Once Upon A Time in Mumbai opposite Ajay Devgan. The two should make a handsome and intense on-screen jodi. In this period film, set in the 1960s, Kangana is playing a character based loosely on the tragic actress Madhubala. Speaking about the film, she says, “I worked with Anurag Basu in my first film, and then did two consecutive films with him under the Mahesh Bhatt banner, what more can I ask for?”
And Kollywood fans can look forward to Ek Niranjan, where she will play the heroine opposite Prabhas, releasing in October.
Writing on her blog, Kangana says, “I’ve also begun work on No Problem, Tanu Weds Manu, and have three additional films in the pipeline – each of these is a different genre from anything I have done before. So it does feel like a time of many firsts…my first comedy, first romantic comedy, first thriller and so on! Exciting!”
And as Kangana’s fans are excited to share her journey with her!
