On Friday, one of Bollywood’s best-known directors Karan Johar turned 35. “I am not at all happy about turning 35, so I threw a party to celebrate my depression. I think I’m growing old too quickly! Yesterday, I even coloured my grey hair black!” said Johar. The party was held at Taj Lands End in Bandra, with a guest list that included over 100 invitees.
The multi-talented Johar has touched almost every aspect of the entertainment industry with his many projects. Not only does Johar make incredible movies like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham and the controversial Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna but he also produces films, does some modeling, gives lectures and hosts prestigious events. He also wants to get into acting and of course his widely popular Koffee with Karan has to be mentioned. He has worked with some of Bollywood’s biggest star including: Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan, and he says he is dying to work with Aamir Khan. “I haven’t worked with him yet. He is absolutely wonderful and I would love to work with him.”
However, now he has decided that he will slow down on the multi-tasking and concentrate on making his next film. It is going to be a story of an Indian couple post 9/11 in New York and he plans to cast his favorite stars, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, as the couple. Though he has not really revealed much about the project as of yet. “I am working on the script now so it is too early to talk about the film. I make movies based on stories I believe in,” he said, at a function for Alfred Dunhill a Britain-based luxury brand for which he is the brand ambassador.
Karan has certainly come a long way from being a kid who did not want to go out of the house because he was afraid people would stare at him. He says that he never planned any of this, “Things just happen and I enjoy it,” said Johar.
All of his many projects certainly have given audiences a great deal of entertainment to enjoy and we can’t wait to see what he comes up with next!
