2013 celebrates 100 years of Indian cinema and in recognition of Indian artist’s contribution to the global stage, British parliamentarians have been honouring them in the home of British politics. Following Shreya Ghosal and Amitabh Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan was also honoured this week at the prestigious House of Commons.
Kareena was joined by Girls Aloud band member Kimberley Walsh and magician Dynamo, to also celebrate the London launch of Asian Sunday newspaper, which is headed up by young female Asian entrepreneur Fatima Patel.
Kareena joked about how husband Saif Ali Khan was miffed that despite his strong U.K ties, he had never been invited to the House of Commons. She also shared that the “United Kingdom really feels like a home away from home. It’s one of my favourite destinations to film a movie…everyone is so helpful and so kind. I am so happy I have made it here and thanks to everyone who has been a part of it.”
She talked personally about her families British heritage, referring to Jennifer Kendal, late wife of Shashi Kapoor, who was born in Southport. Kareena also thanked the U.K for the Selfridges store on London’s Oxford Street, which is her favourite place to shop, every time she comes to London!
