If there is one thing we know about director-producer-singer-actor extraordinaire Farhan Akhtar, it is that one should not expect your typical Hindi movie from him. Karthik Calling Karthik, his third film as an actor, seems no different.
Classified as a thriller/romance, Karthik Calling Karthik is written and directed by debutante Vijay Lalwani and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment. Therefore, it is no surprise that none other than Shankar-Eshaan-Loy (Wake Up Sid and Rock On!!) are in the music directors’ chairs and Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics.
Unfortunately for fans of Farhan Akhtar, the singer, he has not graced us with his vocals in this album. The vocal talents which the album does feature in its 9 tracks are K.K (‘Khuda Jaane’ — Bachna Ae Haseeno), Clinton Cerejo (‘Kya Karoon’ from Wake Up Sid and ‘I Will Be There For You’ — Teree Sang), Shankar Mahadevan (Breathless and Wake Up Sid — Title Song), Kailash Kher (‘Yun Hi Chala’ – Swades), Caralisa Montiero (‘Phir Dekhiye’ — Rock On!!) and Suraj Jaggan (‘Zeherley’ — Rock On!!) amongst others.
Karthik Calling Karthik co-stars Deepika Padokone (Om Shanti Om and Love Aaj Kal). Expect a call in at a cinema near you on the 26th of Febuary, 2010.
The album commences with Hey Ya! A fresh and trendy romantic number which is well rendered by Clinton Cerejo, it starts off with well-penned English lyrics and eventually settles into familiar Hindi words of love and infatuation. That is not to say that it is boring. Though one may hear clich
