The cat is finally out of the bag. Devdas has been created, re-created and re-created again through the history of Indian cinema. It’s now Sudhir Mishra’s turn to take the novel to another level altogether with his interpretation. He promises that his Devdas will be completely different from what we have seen before and will actually have a political backdrop.
While Shiney Ahuja is all set to take the title role, there was some confusion as to who will play the passionate but stubborn Paro. After rumours of Rani Mukerji signing on to the project, Sudhir Mishra confirms that it’s not Rani but Lara Dutta who has bagged the project. He tells IndiaFM, “Yes, Lara has been signed for Paro’s role as she has this amazing self confidence in her. Moreover, it depends on how I am interpreting Paro. I am seeing Paro as a strong woman which Lara definitely looks like.” After Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and Partner, it looks like Lara Dutta is finally rising to the top.
That’s not all! Soha Ali Khan will be playing the fiery Chandramukhi in the film. After working with Mishra in Khoya Khoya Chand, it seems the director is quite impressed with her.
The shooting will be completed by March of 2008 and will commence later this year.
