Life in a Metro will release in theatres on May 11th and many fans are very excited to see this ensemble piece. Now it has been announced that it will be simultaneously released online as well through Rajshri.com, the broadband portal operated by Rajshri Films.

Rajshri.com began its online offerings with a very successful launch of Vivah (which this journalist took advantage of much to her delight) and now also have the UTV release Hattrick available.

However, this opportunity to see the film online and not in the theaters does not come cheaply. You will be able to view the film for only 72 hours on a download-on-demand basis, with a low-resolution version costing $9.99 and a high-bandwidth file at $19.99. For Vivaah it was only offered in the low-band version, the quality was not perfect but it was good.

The Anurag Basu-helmed film premiered in London on Tuesday night and then Friday the commercial theatrical releases in the U.S., India, Dubai and Australia. Simultaneous Web release is a way to reach the nonresident Indian populations in other parts of the world. “With the online premiere, we are mainly targeting the South Asian diaspora,” said UTV spokesman Siddarth Kapur.

It also has the added advantage of reaching those who otherwise would not be able to see the film until the DVD release. And for that I say, thank you!
