Darsheel Safary, the Filmfare critically acclaimed best actor of 2007 is out to catch meaty roles with good pay and promising actors. The savvy actor has been glowing post Aamir Khan’s much appreciated Taare Zameen Par and since then, our young star is pouring with film offers and television ads. The 11-year-old was recently spotted running the ramp for designer Neeta Lulla in Lakme Fashion Week; so what’s his next move?
Reportedly, Safary is playing selective when it comes to film offers. After grabbing the role of the Dyslexic child, Ishaan, Safary has turned down Nikhil Panchammiya’s Mastang Mama starring Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar actor, Ruslaan Mumtaz. The role in question has now gone to child actor, Tanay Cheda who played Darsheel’s handicap friend in TZP. When asked why Darsheel was not cast for the role, newcomer Ruslaan responded with, “He seems out of bounds. So we thought why not the guy who played Darsheel’s classmate and buddy? We feel Tanay is as good as Darsheel.”
However, Darsheel will be seen this week on the hit show, Chak De Bachche in his first televised appearance post TZP.
Meanwhile, Safary’s character in TZP is the motivation for an important plan the Mumbai civic body is in the process of developing. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), is going to help special needs children by starting twelve classrooms in 1,188 civic run schools for the upcoming school year, 2008-09.
Mayor Shubha Raul, who is initiating the project said, “Several parents of children with disorders like autism and dyslexia have met me since the release of Taare Zameen Par. They didn’t realize that their children were suffering, while dyslexic students can study in normal schools, we found that autistic students need to be trained differently and that an early diagnosis is crucial.” Mayor Raul also adds, “With the help of a Santa Cruz based organization of parents, the special classrooms will be set up with special study pattern and trained teachers.”
We’re certain that director, Aamir Khan along with writer, Amol Gupte have smiles on their faces as the nation comes together to help children in need through the inspiration of Taare Zameen Par.
