I hate the subtitles in Indian films. As someone who watches many foreign films, subtitles don’t bother me. Inaccurate translations do.

Indian cinema has a huge issue with translations and subtitles. I have no idea what the film’s subtitles turn out to be in other languages, but with English being my mother tongue and Hindi/Urdu being my second language, I often find the translations inaccurate or the direct translation to lose the impact and strength it has in Hindi.

Hindi and Urdu are beautifully poetic languages. There’s magic to them. They describe faces and physical features with eloquence and grace that English poets dream of. However, when you translate it into English, the poetry loses its beauty and sounds far more like a corny clich
