In the industry of entertainment someone’s loss becomes another person’s gain. The same holds true for debutant actor Amrita Puri. She is an amchi Mumbai mulgi who is making her debut in the recently released film by Anil Kapoor Productions Aisha. She plays the character of Harriet Smith from Jane Austen’s book Emma. Prior to Aisha, Amrita has been a part of many Ads as a model.
But what many aren’t aware is that this fresh face girl’s first brush with stardom would have been in Dibankar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhoka. “I had auditioned for Aisha and bagged the role. Soon after that I auditioned for LSD because I knew that Dibakar was directing it and I really wanted to work with him. I gave the audition and forgot about it because I thought I had not done a great job. I tend to be very critical of myself. I finalized my dates for Aisha. Then to my surprise Dibakar liked my audition and I got selected LSD too (the role which eventually was played by Shruti). Like the saying goes when it rains it pours. Unfortunately the dates for both the films were clashing and I had to pass on LSD,” says Amrita Puri.
“I tried sorting out the dates but it was just not possible. I hope to work with Dibankar in the future. I have heard great things about him from Abhay Deol who is my co-star in Aisha,” adds Amrita excitedly.
