A film that was originally announced with Konkana Sen Sharma in the lead role as Tanu, which for some reason didn’t quite work out. After an initial quiet period where no one knew quite what was happening with the film, Tanu Weds Manu was re-announced with Kangana Ranaut in the lead.

Following hot on the heels of Band Baaja Baraat, everyone was slightly groaning at the thought of ‘another’ wedding film. Tanu Weds Manu was one of the surprise packages of the year so far.

Gaining largely average reviews from critics with Rajeev Masand commenting that Tanu Weds Manu suffers from a painful Jab We Met hangover, and though the film had some fine moments, they were ‘few and far between’ and gave the film 2 out of 5. Sukanya Verma reviewed for Rediff and gave the film 3 out of 5, stating that Tanu Weds Manu ‘doesn’t take offence at anything but will charm you anyway’.

BollySpice reviewer Roshni Mulchandani gave the film 3 out of 5 and commended the films script and dialogue.

Now come the numbers. Tanu Weds Manu collected Rs. 18.5 crore in its first week of release, Rs. 8.50 crore in its second week giving it a two week total of Rs. 27.25 crore. Steady business in the third week took the collections to Rs. 32.25 crore. By the end of the eighth week its total collections had reached 38.68 crore making this film a hit even though majority of the collections were made in Delhi/UP and East Punjab. The film didn’t do to badly overseas either with US collections reaching US $238,599 and UK collections UK £99,641. Tanu Weds Manu is our number 4.
