Releasing this Dusshera, October 7th, is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s romantic drama Mirzya. Written by the legendary Gulzar, Mirzya is a musical with music created and crafted by Shankar Ehsaan Loy. The film introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor, Saiyami Kher, and Anuj Choudhry to the big screen and also stars internationally renowned actors Om Puri, Art Malik and K.K. Raina.
Mirzya is an epic love story that plays out in contemporary times – inspired by the folk tale of “the legend of Mirza – Sahiban” … a tragic love story that finds resonance in other tales such as Romeo and Juliet, Laila and Majnu.
A timeless folktale about star-crossed lovers is played out in two parallel worlds, one real, and one fantastical. As the lovers grapple with forces that seek to keep them apart in both avatars, they discover that even a moment of true love is worth an entire lifetime.
Mirzya is filled with heightened drama and action packed sequences in the larger than life visual terrain of Rajasthan, juxtaposed with flashes of the fantastical universe of the folklore. Set in the awe-inspiring landscape of Ladakh, the fragrances of an era gone by float over the contemporary desert state of enchanting Rajasthan. The sweeping country landscapes are the background where the exotic and colorful tradition of music fills the air.
We had an amazing interview with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra about all things Mirzya but you have to wait to closer until the release date to see what he revealed to us about the film. All we can say is that it is about love in its many forms. And that we are even more excited to hear the music and see Mirzya come to life onscreen after talking with the director.
