Here’s some exciting movie news! Aamir Khan’s highly anticipated film, Sitaare Zameen Par, is finishing up its final schedules and will, according to Aamir Khan, hit the big screen in December. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film, which also stars Genelia D’Souza, is based on the Spanish movie Campeones (2018) and will follow the journey of a championship team of basketball players with intellectual disabilities and their unwilling coach.
Aamir says the film showcases a different perspective than the 2007 drama Taare Zameen Par, which he directed and starred in. That film focused on young Ishaan and his struggles in school with dyslexia. “Sitaare Zameen Par is a sequel to Taare Zameen Par, a film that I directed some years ago. However, it is not a sequel in the sense that the characters do not continue from the previous one. So, it is a fresh set of characters with completely fresh situations and plot. Thematically, it is a sequel to Taare Zameen Par. It is saying the same things… actually, it is saying a lot more actually. Taare Zameen Par was about a child who has dyslexia. So it is a film that explored the themes of challenges of multiple intelligences, and how we are quick to judge people based on their written and reading IQ. Whereas people have multiple intelligences who do not get recognized often. All of us have difficulties and weaknesses, qualities that make us magical and unique. That theme is the theme that is taken forward in Sitaare Zameen Par,” he explained last year.
The actor added, “In many ways, I feel its way ahead of Taare Zameen Par… because in Taare Zameen Par, the person who was challenged, was Ishaan. He was helped by a character, which was my character. In Sitaare Zameen Par, it is 10 people with challenges who help me… the supposedly normal person. So, it’s a real flip. It goes much further, I feel, than Taare Zameen Par.”
He says, “The theme is the same, but the difference is that, unlike Taare Zameen Par, which left you with tears, Sitaare Zameen Par will leave you in laughter.”
The director praised Aamir Khan on Instagram: “From watching Lagaan on screen and picking up my jaw from the floor. To standing next to, learning from, admiring, and working with THE Aamir Sir. God has been extremely kind and generous. So so much to learn from, sir, on so many fronts. But above all how to be an amazing human being. Full of love, passion, absolute humility. Unending curiosity and learning zeal. A terrific leader, an extraordinary creative culture builder. Constantly empowering those around him. Extremely trusting. And a protector.”
Now, not much else is really known about Sitaare Zameen Par, so we will all have to wait and watch to see what is coming! Keep it locked on BollySpice!
