2025 is shaping up to be a banner year for Hindi film, with many intriguing stories getting ready to play the big screen. Subhash K Jha reveals his selections for the five movies that must be seen at the cinema!
1. Loveyapa:
The chemistry between Sridevi’s daughter Khushi and Aamir Khan’s son Junaid in this cute-as-a-button love story is the highlight among many highlights of the Madhu Mantena production. After this Valentine’s Day release, directed by Advait Chandan, there will be a queue of producers signing this screen pair together and apart. Loveyapa is the Bobby of our times. And that’s saying a lot.
2. Lahore 1947:
Raj Kumar Santoshi is back in form in this heartrending drama of a family during the Partition trying to retain their ancestral home in Lahore. Lahore 1947 also stars Aamir Khan, Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, and Shabana Azmi. While Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta, with their limited histrionic range, do their best, it is the mighty Shabana Azmi who carries the film beyond the checkpost. Santoshi returns to the intense dramatic storytelling of Lajja and Ghatak.
3. Love & War:
If it is Sanjay Leela Bhansali, it’s got to be super-special. His on-the-floors love triangle—Bhansali, has already completed one long schedule, reunited the epic filmmaker with his Saawariya actor Ranbir Kapoor and Gangubai actress Alia Bhatt. Vicky Kaushal is the bandh mutthi of the film. Make no mistake, this tale of love, war, betrayal, and redemption will rip the screen part in 2025.
4. The Untold Story Of C Sankaran Nair:
Karan Johar teams up with Akshay Kumar for what promises to be the most explosive historical of 2025. Akshay, in one of his most challenging roles since Airlift, plays C Sankaran Nair, who famously took on the British empire in a case against the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Akshay plays a senior and highly respected lawyer, while Ananya Pandey (who had a career-changing 2024) plays his protegee. The film is most likely to revive audiences’ interest in biopics. Yes, it has turned out THAT well. Karan Singh Tyagi of Bandish Bandits directs.
5. War 2:
Even if you are not a fan of the first War film in 2018, and even if you think Ayan Mukerji is not quite the right fit for directing a high-fidelity action film, there is N T R Junior and Hrithik Roshan facing off one another in a photo-finish fight. Who cares about anything else?
