Having shared the small screen as celebrity judges on the reality dance show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’s last season, mother – daughter jodi Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan will finally share the silver screen for the first time in an English film to be produced by a British production house and directed by debutante director and former assistant to acclaimed filmmaker Rituparno Ghosh – Sangeeta Datta.
Soha confirmed the news by commenting, “Yes Mom and I are doing a film together. It’s an English film by a British production company and directed by Sangeeta Datta. It’s an absolutely lovely script and shooting starts in May in London.”
The as yet untitled film stars Om Puri, Girish Karnad and others in a family drama. Sources reveal, “The film tells the story of a father and his three daughters. Both Sharmila and Soha were very impressed by the script that they instantly gave the nod.”
Rumours on the grapevine are that Girish Karnad, last seen in 8X10 Tasveer is to be essaying the father’s role in the film. The makers hope to showcase the film at the prestigious London Film Festival in October this year.
Having already shared the screen with her son Saif Ali Khan in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s Eklavya – The Royal Guard, it will be interesting to see Sharmila perform alongside her daughter Soha. Incidentally, there were rumours prior to this announcement that the mother-daughter duo would come together in Aparna Sen’s The Jewellery Box and a film by Jahnu Barua. However, so far there has been no further announcement made.
