Mr. India is considered one of Bollywood finest films directed by Shekhar Kapur. The film didn’t just do wonders at the box-office but also went on to further the careers of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. As a reminder, Mr. India ended with the death of Mogambo and the world being freed from his evil clutches and wrong intentions. However, into the new millennium, producer Boney Kapoor is back with Mr. India 2. The cast will include Anil Kapoor and Sridevi in pivotal roles but a new villain played by Salman Khan.
According to Boney Kapoor, “Mogambo was a perfect villain for those times. He died at the end of Mr India. So that’s the end of him. Salman has said that he wants to be part of Mr. India 2 in any capacity, even as a villain. It would be a big challenge to project Salman as a negative character, a first for him.” It will not be Shekhar Kapur who will be taking on the directors cap for the sequel but Anees Bazmee instead, “The challenge for me is to create a larger-than-life villain like Mogambo for Salman to play.”
Questions quickly were afloat as to why Kapur was not directing the sequel since he managed to deliever a hit with the prequel. He clarified, “Boney was keen that I do Mr. India 2 .I had sent Boney a story. I don’t know what happened to it. I think Boney has a fresh team to helm the project now.” Boney Kapoor confirmed and said, “The first draft that Shekhar sent never went beyond the idea level. He didn’t carry it forward. After the initial notes, I didn’t hear from him. I had no choice but to turn to others to write a sequel.”
