Mrinalini Sharma is hopeful that her new movie Hide & Seek will bring her more into the open in Bollywood and beyond. The film which also stars Purab Kohli and Amruta Patki is a suspense thriller which starts with a game of hide-and-seek between six college friends which suddenly takes on a mysterious edge. Mrinalini explains the fun they all had making the movie. “It has a huge star-cast and all of us had scenes together, the shooting was extremely enjoyable,” she says, “We used to shoot at nights so it was like a house on fire as we all are about the same age.”
The New Delhi actress is determined that she will not be labelled as an item girl in the industry. “I don’t think being an Item Girl is a sure shot way to stardom!” she exclaims, “You’ve got to struggle anyway but I don’t want to be tagged as an item girl, I want to be an actress.” Mralini’s next movie is Shaadi Ke Liye Loan, a masala romance with Vikram Kumar.
Not your average actress, Mrinalini has given a lot of thought to the standard media response that the viewers or readers decide on what makes a news item and recognises that we live in an age of media manipulation where it is the media who makes or breaks stars. “I think that if you want to make a mark over here, you will have to take the media in your stride,” she says and – pointing at the media – she adds, “I feel the standards are different for different celebs.”
