Although we haven’t seen so much of her in Bollywood recently, former item girl Mumaith Khan has been successfully building a career for herself as a leading lady down south. Her song from Kanthaswamy, ‘En Peru Meena Kumari’ has become a monster hit on commercial radio and the ultimate accolade has been suggested, that she may be as good as Namitha! “Mumaith Khan has the necessary oomph and the sparkle in her eyes which worked wonders with the audiences,” says a leading director, “She is now in a position to replace Namitha who has become too monotonous and predictable.”
Mumaith was recently at the audio launch for her movie Pournami Naagam, another snake goddess movie in which Mumaith is said to sizzle in the slithering lead role. “Pournami Naagam is an opportunity for me to prove that I am not just a good dancer, but also a talented actress,” explains Mumaith, “Featuring me in a dual role for the first time in my career, the film revolves around two Naga Devatas -female snakes- who want to perform a ritualistic dance before Lord Shiva in a bid to save the world from the fast approaching collapse and annihilation.”
But Mumaith hasn’t given up the life of an item girl completely. Her item number in Kattradhu Kalavu with a circus troupe is said to be the highlight of the film. She also did an item number in Maghadeera, this year’s monster hit from the south, starring Ramcharan Teja and Kajal Agarwal.
